Pair Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons with your iPhone

Apple has long allowed third-party controllers such as PS5 Sony DualSense and Xbox Core Controller to pair with iPhone and iPad to more conveniently play mobile video games such as Apple arcade library, Minecraft and Call of Duty. And you can add another console controller to this list.

If you have Nintendo Switchyou can now pair Joy-Con controllers with iPhone or iPad running iOS 16. To start, hold down the little black pairing button on the Joy-Con until the green lights run back and forth. This means that the device is in pairing mode. Then open your iPhone and go to Settings > Bluetooth and choose Joy-Con from the list. Repeat this step for the second Joy-Con.

Hidden and recently deleted albums are now password protected

The hidden album in the Photos app is clearly not hidden as it is easy to find, making it impractical for adequately hiding private photos and videos. While Apple has an option to make the hidden album “invisible,” anyone who has access to your phone can redisplay it and see everything inside.

Thanks to iOS 16, you can now lock the Hidden album. You actually don’t need to do anything to enable this feature. If you want to check it, launch the Photos app and go to Albums on the bottom of the screen. If you scroll down you will see a small padlock next to it Hidden and Recently deleted albums. To see what’s inside, use Face ID or a code.

View and share saved Wi-Fi passwords

Apple has allowed iOS users to share Wi-Fi passwords for quite some time, but only by placing two Apple devices close together. And if this feature doesn’t work automatically, you can’t just get the password out of the settings. Additionally, if you want to share your saved Wi-Fi password with someone else, such as an Android user or someone on your computer, you need to know the password. Until now.

In Settings, go to Wi-Fi and tap on the little information icon on the right side of the network where you want to enter the password. To view the network password, tap Password section, then use Face ID or enter your password to view it. Then you can touch Copy copy the password to the clipboard and share it.

You can view the password for any Wi-Fi network you’ve ever connected to, as long as you’re currently connected to it or close enough that it appears under My Networks.

Find and remove duplicate photos and videos

Perhaps you’ve saved the same photo multiple times, or downloaded the video more than once, so duplicates are cluttered in your photo album. This might not be a problem if you have free space, but if not, it might be a good idea to go back and delete every single duplicate – which is now easy to do on iOS 16.

In Pictures > Albumsyou should see a new one now Duplicates album in the Tools section, where Apple scans all your photos and shows you any photo or video you’ve saved more than once. From there, you can delete any duplicates or just hit Joinwhich will keep the photo in the highest quality (and relevant data) and move the rest to the trash.

Merge will keep the photo at its best and delete the rest.

While you’ll probably want to go through each set of duplicates to make sure they are actually exact copies and not similar photos, you can also press Choose > Select all > Join to delete every photo and video that Apple considers to be a duplicate, all at once.

Pin your favorite tabs in Safari

Safari limits your open tabs to 500, and if you’re getting close to that limit, it can be damn hard to find the exact tab you’re looking for. You can scroll endlessly, but now there’s an easier way to find exactly the card you’re looking for.

In Safari, if you tap on an open tab, you can press now Pin board. This will take that tab to the top of Safari, where it will exist as a small tab preview, permanently pinned there, which you can then tap to view.
