Oppo Find X5 Pro: Five Reasons to Look at this Flagship Android Phone

Andrzej Hoyle / topwatchbest

Find X5 Pro is Oppo’s latest flagship Android phone, replacing last year’s Find X3 Pro and boasting a host of cool features including a powerful processor, attractive looks, 5G connectivity and an impressive camera setup.

But it needs all this exciting technology as the premium phone category has never been more competitive with Google Pixel 6 Pro and brand new Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra both tick every box you’d expect from a flagship phone in 2022. So Oppo will have to work hard to distract you from its rivals, especially if it isn’t hard to compete on price.

Oppo Find X5 Pro: 5 things I like about this flagship …

While Oppo didn’t say exactly how much the phone would cost (just saying it would be “competitive” during a press briefing), the previous Find X3 Pro cost over $ 1,000. If you stick to that price, it’s right on that high-end flagship with the S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro. Hopefully the official price could drop a few hundred dollars to sweeten the deal.

But that said, there are some good reasons to look at an Oppo phone, so here are the five things I like the most about Find X5 Pro.

Neat design

I love the look of this phone. It is made of ceramic, which is apparently fired at over 1000 degrees Celsius, which has allowed it to be molded into this single piece that flows up and around the camera’s lenses. It certainly has a unique aesthetic that sets it apart from the competition and I think it is both stylish and elegant so it won’t look out of place in an elegant wine bar or conference table.

It may look brittle, but Oppo believes the ceramic design makes it twice as durable as tempered glass, while the front is made of Corning’s most hardcore Gorilla Glass Victus glass. I haven’t tried to throw it on the ground for fun yet, but I’m sure it will withstand at least a few blows and blows. It is also IP68 waterproof, so spilled drinks or picking up phones in the rain should not be a problem here.

Perfect stabilized cameras

There are three cameras hidden in this ceramic structure. There is a 50-megapixel primary sensor along with a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. As with Find X3, Oppo has used the exact same image sensor for both standard and ultra-wide views, so you don’t have to sacrifice quality when switching between lenses.

And a great effort on the part of the ultra wide angle lens.

After switching to the ultra-wide angle lens, you will notice that there has been a fairly significant change in colors.

The 13-megapixel zoom lens provides a 2x optical zoom. It’s decent, but not a patch for the Pixel 6 Pro’s 4x magnification or the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 10x magnification.

I noticed the camera was taking great pictures when I was taking it out in Edinburgh. The exposure was spot on, there’s tons of detail, and while there’s a bit of a color balance shift between the main and ultra-wide cameras, there’s no drop in image quality. There’s also a 13-megapixel 2x optical zoom lens which is fine, but personally I’d love to see more zoom levels here. Oppo says its customers care more about wide-angle shots, so that’s where its efforts went, but I love the longer zooms offered by the Pixel 6 Pro and the huge 10x zoom with the S22 Ultra as they allow me to get much more creative images. Whether this is a problem for you, you have to decide for yourself.

But Oppo also boasts of the quality of the night mode for both photos and videos. The main sensor has the first 5-axis optical stabilization seen on the phone, as well as its own dedicated processing unit to help brighten dark shots while reducing image noise.

I find his night shots overall good, with a lot of little detail that definitely puts him on par with other top camera phones. This video stabilization works for night shots as well, but most of all it was helpful during the day by smoothing my steps as I walked around Edinburgh.

This is a great camera system overall, and if you prefer those wide, wide-angle views rather than zooming in on small details then here’s your well placed.

Vibrant display

The 6.7-inch display on the Find X5 Pro has a resolution of 3216 x 1440 pixels, making even the finest details razor sharp. It’s also bright, thanks to its vivid, strong colors, making it great for playing colorful games like Asphalt 9: Legends or – I think – Candy Crush Saga.

It curves slightly on the sides for an extra luxurious touch, and a 120Hz refresh rate means gliding across the interface is smooth as butter. However, you can lower this refresh rate and lower the resolution to reduce the load on your battery. Personally, I would do it because I don’t think there will be such a difference that you will notice it in daily use and you can always raise the level of things if you choose to play.

Enormous power

Speaking of accelerating gameplay, Find X5 Pro comes with a very powerful processor in the form of the latest Qualcomm 8 Gen 1 chip. In our benchmarks, the X5 is certainly similar to the S22 Ultra, which means it offers an overall smooth experience.

There is no lag as you swipe across Android 12’s interface, while more demanding games like Asphalt 9: Legends or PUBG play just fine. In short, I can’t imagine you would be able to throw at that thing that would slow it down.

Find X5 Pro supports 80 watt fast charging.

Robust battery and fast charging

All of this is powered by a 5000mAh battery, which is generous in size and should last a full day of mixed use. As with all phones, however, it depends on how demanding you are – if you barely touch it all day beyond replying to a strange text, it will have a lot of juice the next day. Spend the day streaming YouTube videos, and you can expect it will need speeding up in the afternoon.

But the top-up is super fast as the phone supports 80W fast charge which will make your phone 50% empty in just 12 minutes, which is great if you need an extra amount of juice before heading out for a night on the city. And that quick charger is also in the box, so you don’t have to search Amazon trying to find one that will work.

Overall, I think the Find X5 Pro is an impressive phone that delivers the overall power and performance – and, I believe, looks – you’d expect from a high-end phone. Sure, I’d prefer a better zoom lens, but the camera system is great and that’s what makes this phone noteworthy.
