Social security numbers stolen as a result of a Flagstar bank breach

Personal information, including social security numbers, of more than 1.5 million Flagstar Bank customers have been compromised in data breach late last year, the company said.

A Michigan-based bank that has 150 branches and is one of the country’s largest mortgage lenders, said in Maine disclosure that his systems were hacked between December 3 and 4 last year, but the hack was only discovered earlier this month.

The information compromised includes customer names or other identifiers in conjunction with social security numbers.

Flagstar said there is no evidence yet that the stolen customer information has been misused, but as a precaution, it will provide those concerned with free identity theft monitoring for two years.
