Release this fall will not only introduce new features, but also bring back the old ones. Again, you’ll be able to check your iPhone’s battery percentage in the status bar – from anywhere on your device.
After the launch of the iPhone X, which introduced a notch – a black bar at the top of the device where the speaker and camera are located – there wasn’t enough screen space to keep the battery percentage at this level, so Apple removed the feature from iOS.
Sure, you can swipe down from the top right corner of yoursto see the exact percentage in the Control Center, but it’s not the same. You cannot look at the battery percentage from any application or the home screen. And it’s almost impossible to specify the exact percentage just on the battery icon, which isn’t good if your iPhone is near death.
Fortunately, the latest developer beta (5th) and public beta (3rd) of iOS 16 re-bring the battery percentage back to the status bar, inside the existing battery icon. Here’s what you need to know about the new feature.
And if you want to get iOS 16 now, which includes the new battery percentage feature. The also has this feature, but unless you are an Apple developer.
How to recover battery percentage from status bar in iOS 16?
To see the battery percentage in the status bar on iOS 16, all you need to do is have the latest iOS 16 public beta (3rd) or development (5th).
After updating, you should see a percentage on the battery icon at the top right corner of the screen – from anywhere on your iPhone. This way, you can keep a close eye on when your iPhone is charged or running low and when you should start charging it.
While the setting is on by default, you can go to Settings > Battery and turn it on Battery percentage option to make sure it works. While your device is charging, the battery icon will turn completely green showing a percentage, while in low power mode, the battery icon will turn completely yellow but again with a percentage inside.
Unfortunately, the battery percentage option isn’t available on all iPhone models – it’s not yet available on the iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, and iPhone 13 Mini.
