The updated Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook can be all you need on the go

One of Lenovo’s most popular Chromebooks will receive a full update by 2022, as part of the company’s many announcements Mobile World Congress. this IdeaPad Duet 10-inch Chromebook it turned out to be a hit when it was released in 2020 as it was small, performed well, and was cheap, for less than $ 300. This updated version, the IdeaPad Duet 3 Chromebook, is packed with improvements that surely address a few of the original’s shortcomings.

Duet 3 is now an 11-inch Chrome OS tablet with a 2K resolution display. The sporadically slow MediaTek processor has been replaced by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 computing platform, which should improve the performance of the original, and even of a similar size HP Chromebook x2which runs on the first generation 7c computing platform.

The Chromebook Duet 3 now has an 11-inch display.

Lenovo has solved two of my biggest problems with the first generation model. One was that it only had one USB-C port. That might not sound like a big deal, but it made it impossible to charge as well as use the port for anything else without a hub or adapter. The new Duet 3 has USB-C ports on both sides, so you can charge and plug in a monitor or storage at the same time.

The second problem was the keyboard which was cramped with a few half keys. It just wasn’t a good typing experience than sending an email quickly. The larger display size in the new version means Lenovo has a little more space for the keys and the touchpad on the updated keyboard, and the key travel is also a tad better at 1.4 millimeters. Keyboard and folio stand are still included. This is in stark contrast to some Windows based tablets which force you to purchase a keyboard separately. There is pen support as well, but Lenovo does not include it in the box.

The Duet 3 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.

The new keyboard is also better when you’re not using it. In the case of the original, you really had to remove the keyboard completely to use the Duet as a tablet. Now you can flip the keyboard backwards and it will magnetically snap onto the display while disabling the keyboard and touchpad.

Of course, these improvements mean Duet 3 won’t be as cheap at launch as its predecessor. It is expected to start at around $ 400 when it becomes available in May. This works out to around ¬£ 300 or AU $ 555.

The new Duet 5i is a detachable two-in-one Windows 11 system.

Lenovo has also expanded the Duet line beyond Chromebooks and will now use the Duet name for all of its two-in-one detachable keyboard devices, including the new IdeaPad Duet 5i coming in July.

The Duo 5i is expected to start at $ 750 and is a 12-inch Windows 11 tablet with a detachable keyboard case. Lenovo will also offer an optional backlit keyboard for the device, making it a nicer option for dimly lit conference rooms and lecture halls. It will be available with a 12th generation Intel Core i7 processor, but the base model is the entry-level Pentium chip. Fully loaded, however, it seems like a good alternative to the Microsoft Surface Pro. However, it looks like we’ll have to wait until summer to find out.

Lenovo has also added new models to its IdeaPad Flex Chromebook and Windows 11 laptops. They feature the latest AMD and Intel processors, brighter, higher-resolution display options, and redesigned hinges that lift the back of the laptops when open, for better cooling and ergonomics. The new Flex 5 and 5i will be available in May in 14- and 16-inch sizes, with the choice of AMD or Intel processors starting at just $ 620. The 14-inch Chromebook Flex 5i will be available in June starting at $ 500. The 15-inch Flex 3i Chromebook will be available from $ 400.

If you prefer an Android tablet, Lenovo has updated its Tab M10 Plus with a brighter 1080p 10.6 inch 2K LCD display, an octa-core processor, up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and pen support. The tablet will also have up to 12 hours of battery life. Look for it in June, starting at $ 190.
