Cramp said Thursday that streamers who frequently spread disinformation – so-called “malicious disinformation actors” – will be banned from the platform.

“We don’t believe that people who use online services to spread false, harmful information are happening in our community,” the company said in a press release.

Twitch said it has identified three criteria by which a streamer can be considered a malicious misleading actor and be banned from the platform:

– The streamer has to persistently share incorrect information.
– Disinformation must be widely debunked and widely shared.
– Disinformation must cover harmful topics that: to contain false theories about Covid-19 vaccine and elections.

“We chose these criteria because, taken together, they represent the highest risk of harm, including incitement to harm, in the real world,” said Twitch.

The platform said these new measures will not be enforced against streamers for one-off statements containing disinformation.

People can report malicious deceptors by emailing the account name and any supporting evidence to OSIT@twitch.tv.

Companies have until May 2 to report sources of disinformation, the number of people exposed, and their demographics to see how this has affected groups.
